What Repair Affair

When: 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10

Volunteers will meet up at 8 a.m. May 10 at PWC - 4612 Paddock Road in Bond Hill - and fan out to 70 different job sites, completing home repairs and making the day a little brighter for elderly and disabled homeowners in greater Cincinnati and northern Kentucky. Many of the volunteers are skilled repair tradesmen, volunteering to help with jobs not typically covered by PWC's traditional funding, said Jock Pitts, president of the agency.

"This is the one day a year we can do this on a grand scale and help people we normally couldn't serve," said Pitts. "It's really an incredible effort by our skilled volunteers... because this is their busiest time of year. They are taking a day to give back to their neighbors and making a tremendous impact on the entire community."

    --  The event is presented by Spirit of America National Bank and sponsored
        by Humana, Duke Energy, City of Cincinnati, Prus Construction, Advanced
        Testing, and many other local businesses.
    --  While most volunteers will work on large jobs like ramp installs or
        other major repairs, some will help with smaller jobs typically hard for
        elderly or disabled people.
    --  A dozen volunteers from local church groups will volunteer at a home
        once in foreclosure on Harvey Ave. in St. Bernard that PWC is renovating
        for a disabled family.
    --  Members from Next Chapter Church in Ft. Thomas, KY will make home
        repairs for an elderly client in Newport,  KY and deliver potted flowers
        to many of PWC's clients.

WHO IS PWC?

People Working Cooperatively provides critical home repair, weatherization, and maintenance services for very low-income elderly and disabled homeowners in southwestern Ohio and northern Kentucky.
