USCIS to Naturalize 26 New Citizens on the National Mall
Diverse Group will Celebrate Citizenship during Public Service Recognition Week
WASHINGTON, May 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A diverse group of 26 men and women representing a wide range of occupations will celebrate as citizens ofthe United States during a special naturalization ceremony today on the National Mall. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) acting Director Jonathan "Jock" Scharfen will administer the Oath of Allegiance and address the new citizens during Public Service Recognition Week activities.
The new citizens work as school teachers and bus drivers, customer service representatives, electrical engineers, security officers, college students and other occupations in public service and private industry.
Among the new citizens are six members of the military, including a soldier in the Army's 3rd Infantry Regiment ceremonial color guard. The soldier, who was born inIndia and raised inNew York, followed his desire to serve his adopted nation after the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
The 21 nations represented includeBolivia,China,El Salvador,England,Ethiopia,France,Haiti,Honduras,Hungary,India,Iran,Iraq,Laos,Pakistan,Peru,Russia,Sierra Leone,Somalia,Sudan,Venezuela, andVietnam.
