Japanese Bureaucrat Demoted For 780,000 Porn Hits

Robert Paul Reyes

If the typical civil servant or government bureaucrat simply switched the papers from his in basket to his out basket without actually doing any work, nobody would be the wiser.

The following story from the Associated Press illustrates how useless civil servants are in the great scheme of things:

"A Japanese civil servant was demoted for logging more than 780,000 hits on pornographic Web sites on his office computer over nine months, an official said Friday."

I work in the private sector, and I occasionally check my email or browse a non-pornographic site at work. I can understand how a bureaucrat who has nothing better to do can spend all his time ogling porn sites.

What I find surprising is the sheer number of sites browsed by the Japanese official. Leaving aside for some other day the morality of pornography, a woman's nude body is the most beautiful thing in the world. A photograph of a naked female is to be admired, appreciated and reflected upon - you can't do that in a split second.

"Despite his frequent porn viewing, none of his colleagues noticed his activities, which he apparently conducted throughout the workday." Quotation from the Associated Press

Duh, his fellow civil servants were probably too busy wasting time on the Internet to notice the porn freak sitting next to them.

It's interesting to note that the unnamed civil servant was demoted instead of being fired; if I had ONE porn hit on my computer I would be immediately fired.
