Scientology's Silence of Free Speech
By Johnny Darko
Hi Mike,
Just read your article on scientology at newsblaze.com entitled My 2 Cents Worth on Alan Gray's Undated Article Concerning Scientology. If you don't mind, I wanted to ask you a few questions concerning it.
You alleged in your article: "Go to any psychiatrist or psychologist and ask them how many people they have cured? What tests do they use to determine the "disease" of bi-polar disorder, ADHD or clinical depression?" and go on to say "Ask them how much money they get from pharmaceutical companies when they prescribe those "medications". You will be appalled or rather you should be appalled." I like how you quote medications, seeing as in your 1st statement you mention: "I have heard Scientology is against prescription drugs: we are not." Way to go, you contradicted yourself.
Frankly, did you even double check what you wrote?
Anyways, keep in mind, I am a libertarian and very opened minded. However, unlike you, I have done my research and am personally dismayed about scientology's silence of free speech. But, again, you can always prove me and any other critic wrong. Of course with credible sources. Why don't you do that? Every scientologist I have argued with constantly tells me the same old anecdotal story and it is getting very old; "Have you EVEN read the books?!", "You need to read and research yourself!", "Don't trust the media at all!!", "But it works for me, scientology would never DO THAT!!" & the list goes on - every time lacking evidence to rectify any claims made against them and that's what it comes down too; evidence, critics have it and you, regrettably don't.
Now, anyways to get back on track I am entirely open for you giving me any verification that scientology isn't against prescription drugs. Looking at the CCHR & PSYCHIATRY AN INDUSTRY OF DEATH - your funded museum. The church makes claims such as the Virginia Tech massacre was a consequence of the murderer taking Prozac, with no proof of course. Now correct me if I'm incorrect, isn't Prozac a prescription drug? Also, seeing as you passionately oppose conventional ADHD treatment, I suppose you oppose Ritalin along with it (the drug prescribed to people diagnosed with ADHD)? Well, the CCHR is. They filled five class action lawsuits against the manufacturer of Ritalin (Novartis), CHADD, and the American Psychiatric Association (APA). All five lawsuits were dismissed in 2002.
Why didn't you bring up in your article that scientology's strong opposition of psychiatry has resulted in the deaths of its members? Take Jeremy Perkins for example: He was born into the church, his two parents where devoted scientologists. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia at a young age. They refused to give him prescribed drugs to control his schizophrenia and instead go with scientology's option of vitamins. At age 28, voices in his head eventually won him over and he killed his mother, stabbing her 77 times in their kitchen. This has happened many times. I can provide evidence for all my claims, if you can debunk them, then please do so. A lot of it actually comes from court documents due to freedom of speech.
Why don't you do your research mike, provide proof in order to persuade people - anecdotal evidence isn't enough.
