Penn Treaty Signs Marketing Agreements

ALLENTOWN, Pa., April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Penn Treaty Network America Insurance Company, a leading long-term care insurance (LTCi) provider and a subsidiary of Penn Treaty American Corporation (NYSE: PTA), today announced that it has entered into marketing agreements with Milkie/Ferguson Investments and Ni Advisors.

The agreement with Milkie/Ferguson will add Penn Treaty's PersonaLTC platform to the product offering of that firm's advisors. The PersonaLTC platform is designed to diminish the typical barriers and complexity that financial advisors face when offering LTCi to their clients.

The PersonaLTC approach provides financial advisors with innovative tools to offer LTCi, in order to help protect their clients' wealth and meet their fiduciary responsibility. It also includes a large national network of LTCi specialists to support financial advisors.

"We're extremely pleased to announce these partnerships with Milkie/Ferguson and Ni Advisors, and that their financial advisors will be using PersonaLTC to provide a critical financial tool to their clients," said William W. Hunt, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of Penn Treaty. "As this program is rolled out to their offices, a national co-sales network will support the Milkie/Ferguson and Ni Advisors with answers to their questions to make the sales process easier and faster."

"We understand that long-term care insurance is a vital part of the financial planning process," said Ed Milkie, president of Milkie/Ferguson Investments. "Penn Treaty is an excellent fit for our advisors' needs. Its PersonaLTC program has simplified the underwriting process and allows us to be flexible with clients."

The agreement withCalifornia-based Ni Advisors will offer Penn Treaty's LTCi to their advisors' product platform.

"More and more of our clients are inquiring about long-term care insurance," said Sui-Hock Goy, President of Ni Advisors. "LTCi is becoming an integral component of retirement planning and we need it to compete. As we are primarily in the securities business, we see it as an excellent way to diversify and grow our business."

The PersonaLTC platform will be introduced through customized pilot programs. The central feature of the PersonaLTC platform is a new simplified pre-screening process, which is part of Penn Treaty's EZ LTC App(R) process. The pre-screening process reduces what used to take up to an hour for an advisor to complete to only a few minutes through a simplified online questionnaire.

The need for and costs of long-term care are poorly understood. Consider the following:

-- According to the American Society on Aging, of those reaching
traditional retirement age (65), over 70% will need long-term care at
       some point in their lives.
-- A 2006 study by AARP revealed that 80% of Americans either do not know
or estimate well below the cost of a nursing home stay.
    -- Today, a one-year stay in a nursing home averages $75,000. By 2030, the
same stay may cost nearly $207,000. ("Long-Term Care Insurance:
Protection for Your Future" American Council of Life Insurers, 2007,
       pg. 1)
-- In a 2005 article published by the Center for Retirement Research,
Johnson and Uccello estimate that about 91% of adults age 55 and over
had yet to purchase private long-term care insurance in 2002.
