Nuclear Weapons Update & Victory
By Katherine Fuchs
Thanks to over 85,000 citizens, and Peace Action supporters like yourself, the Department of Energy was flooded with written comments and testimony at hearings over the past three months, opposing Bush's second nuclear complex transformation proposal.
Because of your comments, when I visited Congress last week to reinforce our message, there was a clear consensus against funding for new nuclear weapons!
We're making progress, but with presidential candidates in both parties talking casually about "obliterating" Iran, and with a standing stockpile of 10,000 nuclear weapons, we still have a lot of work to do to ever reach a nuclear free world, and we need your help. Make a tax-deductible contribution of $100, $50 or $25 today to support our work and ensure our continued success in demilitarizing our foreign policy and restoring sanity to government spending priorities.
This year is a critical election year and your support is especially important now. Through our Peace Voter campaign we'll be conducting outreach to voters, and political candidates, educating them about the enduring need for nuclear disarmament now until the end of the 2008 election season.
In 2006 Peace Action distributed hundreds of thousands of our non-partisan voter guides in 18 competitive races, initiated and supported over 40 different resolution campaigns to end the Iraq war, endorsed 52 and contributed to the campaigns of 52 candidates, and called thousands of voters in critical districts to get out the vote.
This year this same effort if essential to reverse Bush's reckless and dangerous nuclear legacy.
We are gaining ground on these issues, and there's growing support across the country and in Congress for serious nuclear disarmament efforts.
Your support makes the difference, contribute today to help us continue leading the way forward towards a nuclear free world.
