U.S. Xpress Marks Earth Day by Teaming with TransCard, Announces Plans to Implement Discover Network Payroll Cards
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Xpress Enterprises,
Inc., the nation's third-largest privately-owned truckload carrier, marked
Earth Day 2008 by announcing the Company's plans to introduce a 100-percent
electronic payroll solution offered through TransCard and the Discover
Network. The implementation of the Discover Network Payroll Cards will allow
U.S. Xpress to enhance the Company's existing electronic payroll, and it will
assist in the Company's efforts to reduce waste and carbon emissions.

The combination of the new TransCard payroll and electronic paystub
product with the Company's current direct-deposit offerings will allow U.S.
Xpress to further reduce the Company's environmental footprint. According to
statistical formulas established by the Electronic Payments Association, the
100-percent payroll solution from TransCard can result in saving more than
10,000 pounds of paper on an annual basis. In addition, a 100-percent
electronic payroll delivery by U.S. Xpress can assist in conserving nearly
13,000 gallons of gasoline that would be needed to send all the Company's
payroll statements through conventional mail in one year. Estimates further
show that these enhancements in the electronic payroll system at U.S. Xpress
have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 399,000
pounds. This year-over-year reduction in greenhouse gas emissions would be the
equivalent of reducing 399,000 miles driven by cars or preserving 55,000
square feet of forest from deforestation.
"We look forward to implementing our new paperless payroll venture with
TransCard, and we believe that the Discover Network Payroll Card will have a
positive environmental impact and enhance our payroll system as well," said
U.S. Xpress Co-Chairman Patrick Quinn "The stewardship of our environment has
long been one of our company's core business values. U.S. Xpress applauds and
supports the efforts of TransCard in developing innovative green solutions
that also provide cost reduction opportunities."
Craig Fuller, CEO of TransCard, stated: "It is amazing how implementing
electronic payroll can affect an organization's environmental footprint. The
TransCard product not only reduces cost in payroll distribution, but it's also
the most environmentally friendly way to pay un-banked employees and
associates. We are excited to be a part of U.S. Xpress' green payroll
initiative."
Last month, TransCard announced the launch of TransCard Mobile, a
text-based payroll stub that allows employees to receive their stubs
electronically on a text-based mobile phone, eliminating the use of paper and
waste in the process. U.S. Xpress responded by agreeing to implement
TransCard's truly green, paperless ideology.
Offered by TransCard to more than 10,000 U.S. Xpress Enterprises
associates, the Discover Network-branded payroll card will allow these
associates to use their cards anywhere that the Discover Network brand is
accepted, including more than 4,400 financial institutions and nearly 260,000
ATMs and point-of-sale terminals nationwide. U.S. Xpress Discover Network
cardholders enjoy the benefits of convenience, cost savings and reduced fraud.
