Peabody's Caballo Mine Ships 500 Millionth Ton of Coal
ST. LOUIS, April 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Peabody Energy's Caballo
Mine today shipped its 500 millionth ton of coal, which is making the journey
by rail to Cook Coal Terminal inIllinois. It travels from there by barge to
American Electric Power Company's Rockport Generating Station inRockport,
Ind.
Rockport Station receives approximately 2.5 million tons of Caballo's coal
annually, joining nearly a dozen coal-based utilities that use the mine's
product to deliver affordable energy to millions of households and businesses
throughoutthe United States. The Caballo Mine is operated by Peabody's Powder
River Coal, LLC subsidiary.
Caballo Mine, located inCampbell County, Wyo., opened in 1978, and began
shipping coal to American Electric Power in 1979. Caballo's 460 employees last
year shipped 31 million tons of coal. Peabody is the largest coal producer in
the Powder River Basin, with 2007 sales of nearly 140 million tons.
"Caballo's 500 millionth ton is a significant accomplishment at a time
when demand is reaching record highs," said Kemal Williamson, Group Vice

Caballo is capable of loading up to nine trains per day into Burlington
Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific trains.
