PHOTOS: Cougars Hand Out Supplies At International Orphan Day in Abu T'shir

BAGHDAD - Lt. Col. Myron Reineke, who hails from Spring Valley, Minn., hands a backpack to a local Iraqi girl at an event celebrating International Orphan Day April 8. Reineke handed out more than 100 backpacks to orphan children at Saif Dawla, a local school for orphans in the Abu T'shir neighborhood, which is located in the Rashid district of southern Baghdad. The event was hosted with the Neighborhood Advisory Council, which handles local issues in the community to make the quality of life better for its citizens. Reineke is the commander of 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, attached to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Multi-National Division - Baghdad.

BAGHDAD - The senior Iraqi teacher at the Saif Dawla, a school for orphans, addresses a class of children April 8 in Baghdad's Abu T'shir neighborhood to celebrate International Orphan Day. The Neighborhood Advisory Council and Soldiers from the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, attached to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Multi-National Division - Baghdad, delivered backpacks, school supplies, snacks and clothes to the children. The event shows the local populace that the NAC is a legitimate government organization and is responsive to the needs of the people.

BAGHDAD - Capt. Kris Howell introduces himself to one of the teachers at Saif Dawla, a school for orphans April 8 in Baghdad's Abu T'shir neighborhood. Howell serves as the commander, Troop C, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division - Baghdad. The Soldiers of 7-10 Cav. Regt., assumed responsibility in the northwest Rashid district from the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, in March. The 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div. is scheduled to soon replace the 4th BCT, 1st Inf. Div., which served a 15-month rotation in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
