PAFP Golf Tournament to Benefit Student Programs
HARRISBURG, Pa., April 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians Foundation (PAFP/F) is hosting a summer golf tournament to benefit family medicine student scholarship programs.
"The Commonwealth needs more family physicians to handle the continuing demand for primary care," said PAFP Foundation President Mary Elizabeth Roth, MD (Allentown). "Since students at our state's medical schools represent the future of family medicine we have to make sure they get every opportunity to succeed and pursue their dreams of helping others."
The FORE Family Medicine Invitational Scramble will be held Saturday, June 28, at Hershey Country Club. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. The 19th Hole Awards Reception is at 6 p.m. The cost per golfer is $165, which includes golf, cart, goodies and the reception. All golfers also receive a free golf jacket courtesy of PMSLIC, which provides professional liability insurance for physicians in PA.
All levels of golfers can participate. Individual and team registrations are welcome.
Proceeds will fund three essential student initiatives:
-- The Lila Stein Kroser, MD Leadership Scholarship Fund: supporting future leaders in family medicine through an annual scholarship fund in memory of Lila Stein Kroser, MD.
-- The Nikitas J. Zervanos, MD Medical Student Interest in Family Medicine Fund: supporting basic student interest programs in the field of family medicine. (NOTE: This fund honors Dr. Zervanos, aLancaster physician, who developed and then headed the residency program at Lancaster General for 33 years.)
-- The AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Student Scholarship Fund: sending students to the National Conference held annually inKansas City, MO.
Featured is a hole-in-one contest with the chance to win a car (worth $25,000) or $25,000 cash. Also, golfers can win $5,000 in the consecutive putting contest and many other prizes throughout the afternoon.
