4Connections Brings Intelligence To Dark Fiber Solutions
PARSIPPANY, N.J., April 9, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- 4Connections, aNew Jersey
andNew York metro lit and dark fiber provider, announced today at the Wall
Street Technology Association's Next-Generation WANS conference a
groundbreaking new product, the 4Connections Intelligent Fiber Solution (IFS).
Powered by Ciena's CN 4200 FlexSelect Advanced Services Platform, the IFS
offers unlimited bandwidth, flexible provisioning and data security as well as
circuit engineering, network management and maintenance, a first in the
industry!
The enhanced management capabilities of IFS allow for security and quality
control, while ensuring the least possible end-to-end latency for mission-
critical data. These features include customers' ability to self-monitor the
4Connections' fiber quality and network availability, providing complete data
security and reliability. The IFS is also designed to solve the circuit
engineering issues that are becoming more apparent as circuit bandwidth
continues to expand into 10-gigabit circuits and beyond. In addition, every
Intelligent Fiber Solution is individually engineered for C-Band loss
compensation and dispersion with amplification provided mid-span to reduce
noise.
"4Connections Intelligent Fiber Solution brings end-to-end fiber
management and monitoring right to the customer's premise," states Bill
Kosnik, Director of Optical Engineering for 4Connections. "This is
accomplished without compromising bandwidth, flexibility or security, through
the addition of an Optical Supervisory Channel (OSC). This improved monitoring
capability translates into enhanced network management and proactive, instead
of reactive, problem determination."
By using the OSC, the 4Connections Network Operations Center (NOC) has the
ability to monitor the condition of their clients' fiber 24 hours a day, 365
days a year. For clients, this translates into maximized uptime for their
mission-critical communications. 4Connections also provides the customer with
a portal into the 4Connections' NOC for monitoring purposes and additionally,
clients can monitor their on-premises equipment connected to the circuit.
Leveraging those attributes in the development of the IFS, 4Connections
and Ciena designed the solution to ensure the cost-effective, reliable
delivery of optical communications, regardless of distance or data rate.
"Our collaboration with 4Connections to bring IFS to market was a natural
fit with the attributes of our FlexSelect Architecture and CN 4200 platform,"
said Theresa Caragol, Senior Managing Director, Global Alliances at Ciena. "As
the network specialist, we are committed to innovation that helps customers
overcome their challenges while enabling greater cost efficiency and
performance. The IFS from 4Connections is a great illustration of those
principles."
