Seoul Semiconductor Signs License Agreement With Professor Rothchild

Agreement Assures Unrestricted Sales of Company's LED Products in the U.S.

Seoul Semiconductor, one of the world's leading LED manufacturers, signed a license agreement with Professor Gertrude Neumark Rothchild of the United States in early April 2008. Professor Rothchild, formerly with Columbia University, filed a complaint in the United States International Trade Commission (US ITC) against 34 companies on February 19, 2008.

"With the license agreement, Seoul Semiconductor is able to provide unrestrictive sales of LED products in the U.S. market, providing further assurance to our vendors and customers," according to a spokesperson for Seoul Semiconductor.

The spokesperson further added that "Seoul Semiconductor is a strong proponent of protecting its intellectual property rights and respects the intellectual property right of other companies. This is evidenced by our recent successes in protecting our IP rights in a number of lawsuits in Korea and by us signing a patent license agreement with Itswell Co., Ltd. just last month."

Seoul Semiconductor has continued to invest in research and developments to strengthen its patent portfolio for the past 15 years, and currently, Seoul Semiconductor possesses approximately 2,000 LED-related patents worldwide. In addition, Seoul Semiconductor has signed numerous license agreements and strategic partnerships with universities, laboratories and companies in the LED industry.
