Free Tax Clinic Hosted by Multiethnic/Diverse Philadelphia Obama Supporters Scheduled for April 12th
PHILADELPHIA, April 7, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday April 12, 2008
from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., a group of volunteers, community leaders and
elected officials who embrace Presidential Candidate Senator Barack Obama's
message of inclusion and empowerment will present a free tax clinic targeting
those Philadelphians (earning between $3,000-8,750) who traditionally do not
file for taxes. There are 14 million people nationwide who are not on the tax
rolls and will fail to receive this rebate check of a minimum $300. In
addition, this tax filing will help eligible older Pennsylvanians to secure up
to a $650 property tax/rent rebate.
This free clinic which will take place at 728 S. Broad St. in the offices
of Solutions for Progress, a progressive public policy technology company
providing services that directly assist low and middle income families to
obtain public benefits easily and with dignity, is geared towards people who
might be deprived from receiving a rebate as a part of the Federal Government
Economic Stimulus Package, unless they file for 2007 taxes. The service is
free and available to people who meet the following requirements: applicant
and/or spouse received at least $3,000 (combined if filing jointly) from
Social Security, Railroad Retirement, or Veterans' benefits as the only source
of income; applicant and/or spouse have no dependents; applicant and/or spouse
have a Social Security Number (SSN) applicant and/or spouse are U.S. citizens
or resident aliens; applicant cannot be claimed as a dependent on another

documentation on sources of income for the 2007 calendar year including
SSA-1099 (Social Security Benefits, not including SSI), RRB-1099 (Tier 1,
Social Security equivalent railroad benefits), and documents from Veterans
Affairs for disability, pension, or survivors' benefits. Applicants did not
receive any of those forms should bring a statement indicating monthly
benefits allowing for the calculation of an estimate of the amounts received
for the year. Additionally, applicants interested in receiving their rebate
via direct deposit, must bring their bank routing and account numbers, which
can be found on the bottom of a paper check.
In the spirit of Obama's commitment to inclusion and grassroots community
empowerment the primary organizers of this event, Asian Pacific Americans for
Progress (a grassroots, internet-empowered, national network of Asian Pacific
Americans and allies for Progressive Action) and United People for Obama
(Philadelphia Coalition of diverse Obama Supporters) will kick off activities
