PowerPlay 10X(R) Will Pay $2 Million for Second-Tier Powerball-With-PowerPlay Win
All PowerPlay Matches Can Multiply 10 Times During April Promotion
MIDDLETOWN, Pa., March 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Powerball's second-tier prize will be worth up to $2 million cash under a special Powerball-with-PowerPlay promotion that begins Wednesday, April 2.
PowerPlay 10X(R) will pay up to $2 million cash, less 25 percent federal withholding, to players who purchase the PowerPlay option and match all five white ball numbers without matching the red Powerball number. The $2 million prize will be awarded when a "10" is selected on the PowerPlay wheel, multiplying the $200,000 second-tier prize by 10.
Beginning with the Wednesday, April 2, drawing, one of the number "5" spots on the PowerPlay wheel will be replaced with a number "10." If the 10 is selected on the PowerPlay wheel during any of the Powerball drawings in April, all Powerball prizes -- except for the jackpot prize -- will increase 10 times. There still will be 16 total spaces on the PowerPlay wheel during April -- one number 10; three number 5s; four number 4s; four 3s; and four 2s.
As always, the PowerPlay option can be purchased for an extra $1 per Powerball play. Advance-purchase plays that include drawing dates in April are eligible for the 10X promotion.
The promotion will run for at least nine draws. However, if the PowerPlay number 10 is not selected during the nine draws in April, the promotion will continue until 10 is selected. If a 10 is selected during any of the nine April draws, the promotion will continue throughout the month and will end with the Powerball drawing on Wednesday, April 30. At the end of the promotion, the 10 will be removed from the PowerPlay wheel and the original 5 will return to that spot.
Powerball drawings are conducted from WestDes Moines, Iowa, every Wednesday and Saturday at 11 p.m., Eastern Standard Time. Powerball tickets are sold in 31 participating jurisdictions -- 29 states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.
How to play Powerball: To play Powerball, players pay $1 and select five white balls from the first set of 55 numbers plus a single red ball, the Powerball, from a second set of 42 numbers. Players may select their own numbers using a Powerball play slip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn plus the Powerball number to win the jackpot. There also are eight additional ways for players to win a cash prize.
