Lawyers Observe Black Day, Stage Protests in Kashmir

Srinagar, March 19: The lawyers in Kashmir who are on strike to protest against the assault on their colleagues by Hindu right wing activists, observed black day on Wednesday and staged protest rallies.
Wearing black ribbons on their arms, the lawyers carrying placards and banners marched from the lower court to the city centre. They were raising anti-India and pro-freedom slogans. The protesting lawyers demanded that all the Kashmiri detainees lodged in Indian jails should be shifted to Kashmir so that legal aid can be provided to them.
The chairman of Kashmiri laywer's body, Nazir Ahmed Ronga told the media that the lawyers were observing black day in support of their demand that prisoners lodged in jails outside Kashmir be brought here.
The protesting lawyers while condemned the assault on their colleagues by right wing Hindu activists and said they would give proper reply to these Hindu extremists peacefully with wisdom. "We will give a reply them through wisdom and not through violence," they said.
Meanwhile, for the third day in succession, the lawyer's boycott court proceedings in Kashmir. The lawyers have, however, decided to resume duties from Thursday.
A spokesperson for the lawyers said that they have decided to call a strike and work in courts will begin from Thursday.
He demanded immediate shifting of Kashmiris detainees from Indian jails outside. "The detainees should be brought here so that legal and medical aid is provided to them," he added.
He alleged that hundreds of detainees are languishing in jails despite fulfilling their terms. "Some others are not being released despite court orders," he added.
