Call for Pre-Release Clearance of "The Love Guru"
Another organization, India Heritage Panel, has jumped the fray in asking the makers of Hollywood movie "The Love Guru" to secure clean chit from Hindu leaders before its June release.
Its president, Lila D. Sharma, in a release here today, stated that Western media in general and Hollywood in particular have been parodying India and Hinduism off and on in the past and this practice should stop. We are a rich civilization and we should get the respect due to us in films and other media, he stressed.
Hollywood is trying to make money by laughing at our holy men and in the process creating a stereotype, Sharma said.
He said that he fully supports the prominent Indo-American leader Rajan Zed's view that "The Love Guru" "appears to be lampooning Hinduism and Hindus and using Hindu terms frivolously".
Starring Mike Myers of Austin Powers fame, comedy "The Love Guru" is due for release on June 20.
