Ty Warner Vindicated of Alleged Witness Tampering
CHICAGO, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals recently
affirmed a jury's decision in favor of Ty on a trademark infringement claim
and reinstated a damage award of $713,000 that had previously been ordered
forfeited as a sanction for Ty's alleged tampering with a witness.
In 2000, Ty Inc., maker of the famous Beanie Babies(R) line of plush toys
sued Softbelly's Inc., a California plush toy maker, for trademark
infringement in connection with Softbelly's "Screenie Beanies" plush toys.
"We're happy that Ty Warner's good name has been cleared of witness tampering
and that the sanction imposed has been vacated," said James P. White, a
partner at Welsh & Katz, Ltd., who represented Ty Inc. in the case.
