Another Bofors Tank Shell Recovered in Kashmir
By Fayaz Wani
Srinagar, March 6: Another Bofors tank shell was recovered near the gutted Indian army's ammunition depot at Khundroo in South Kashmir.
A top police officer of the area told NewsBlaze that a live Bofors tank shell was found at Achabal village, in South Kashmir, some 70 kms from summer capital Srinagar. He said that the locals informed the police about the shell.
"It was later handed to the army authorities, who took the device along with them," he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Indian army's biggest ammunition depot in Kashmir was gutted in a blaze in August last year, killing 19 persons, mostly Indian firemen and army personnel. Due to the blaze, live shells, explosives and rockets had scattered in the area and it took more than three months for the army's bomb disposal squads to clear the area of live shells.
Locals said that some live shells are still scattered in the villages adjacent to the gutted ammunition depot.
