Former PGA Tour Player Hugh Royer III Opens the Champions Golf Academy
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- For more than a decade, Hugh
Royer III competed successfully against some of the best golfers in the world
and now this renowned golf instructor will put his expertise to work at the
Champions Golf Academy located at the Long Bay Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature
Course, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Royer played professionally for 14 years, which included three years on
the PGA Tour, four wins on the Nationwide Tour, and was a winner on the South
African Tour. As an amateur, he was the Georgia State Amateur Champion,
Southeastern Amateur Champion, Western Amateur Champion, Azalea Amateur
Champion, NCAA Division II Player of the Year and member of the First Team
All-American. In 2000, he was inducted into the Columbus State University
Hall of Fame.
"Being a professional player at the highest competitive levels gives you a
perspective that most coaches and instructors don't have," says Royer, who has
spent the last seven years as a teaching professional. "They don't know what
it's like to have to make a putt to make the cut. I was fortunate enough to
have that experience." Royer's teaching philosophy was created by combining
what he learned from those that taught him in addition to his own playing
experience and molding them into his own unique way of instructing players on
that next level and assisting those who dream of getting there.
The Champions Golf Academy offers comprehensive golf programs at a state-
of-the-art facility. These include a tour players program for professionals,
gap-year program for college-bound players, adult golf schools, weekly summer
camps for juniors, and private lessons. The learning center consists of a
driving range with three private teaching bays, short and long-game areas,
lounge, extensive club fitting technology, and its own fitness center.
Additionally, sports psychology is led by Stephen A. Russo, Ph.D. to assist
players with the mental pressures of the game.
The Champions Golf Academy is an official sponsor of the Canadian Tour,
Hooters Tour, Southeastern Junior Golf Tour and has partnered with golf
corporations such as Nickent Golf, Page & Tuttle, Tour Golf Fitness, UST, V-1,
Zelocity, and GustBuster/SunBuster for equipment and supplies and is the
official training facility for the Tour Players Golf Group. For more
