Dr. Arnon Krongrad Responds to AHRQ Report on Prostate Cancer Treatments

A recent study published by The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality reported that prostate cancer treatments are "seriously lacking." Dr. Arnon Krongrad, President of Miami-based Krongrad Institute, supported the claim.

"The report substantiates what we've known for a long time: the scientific touchstones for prostate cancer treatment, be it radiation or laparoscopic prostate surgery, is severely lacking," Krongrad stated.

The report was based on over 600 published reports on radical prostatectomy, external beam radiotherapy, prostate brachytherapy radiation, and robotic prostate surgery, in which the committee was able to identify only three randomized clinical trials that were conducted. Additionally, most of the data recorded was compiled in an era prior to prostate-specific antigen testing.

"Now is the time to organize and put together randomized trials," said Dr. Krongrad, "This way, we will have better knowledge in the future."
