Federal Signal Hires Bartlit Beck to Defend Chicago Hearing Loss Trial; Announces Successful Dismissal of All New York Cases
OAK BROOK, Ill., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Federal Signal
Corporation, a leader in advancing security and well-being, announced that it
has retained Phil Beck of Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar and Scott LLP as trial
counsel to defend the Company in the Cook County, Illinois firefighter hearing
loss cases scheduled for trial in March 2008.
The Company also announced that on January 25th, the Supreme Court of
Kings County, New York granted Federal Signal's motion to dismiss all New York
hearing loss cases.
"We are encouraged by these recent developments. The addition of Phil Beck
to our team highlights our commitment to aggressively defend our Company,"
stated Jennifer L. Sherman, vice president and general counsel of the Company.
"After almost nine years of litigation, Federal Signal is eager for its day in
court, and we remain confident that our highly skilled trial team will be
successful."
"Federal Signal makes important, life-saving products, and I look forward
to the opportunity to present their case in Court," stated Phil Beck of
Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP.
Sherman added, "The successful dismissal in New York was very encouraging.
For decades, fire departments have continued to specify and depend on Federal
Signal's emergency vehicle warning sirens to provide a loud and broadly
disseminated warning sound to allow firefighters to get to the scene of an
emergency as quickly as possible, while protecting firefighters and the public
along the way."
In granting the motion, the New York Judge stated that the burden of
protecting public employees, including New York firefighters, belongs to the
Commissioner of Labor, a government employee, which adopts standards to
protect the health and safety of municipal employees by promulgating New York
laws.
