Hong Kong Biotech Company Presents Satisfactory Clinical Results

Comprehensive Drug Enterprises Limited (CDE), who owns the right of the award winning sublingual delivery technology J Flux Max, presented the clinical results on their lead product "Sublingual Propranolol" today at the International Symposium on Cardiovascular & Neurovascular Medicine 2008.

"The clinical data proved that our patented delivery technology enhanced solubility of weak base medicine to improve sublingual absorption to achieve effective plasma drug concentration rapidly. Comparing to the name brand propranolol (Inderal), our sublingual propranolol demonstrated significantly better in pharmacokinetic parameters. And this technology is applicable to many drug compounds especially in the management of acute conditions. Sublingual Propranolol can be use in the treatment of anxiety tachycardia. We are developing other products of which rapid onset of drug action is a priority. Our goal is to enable patients and health professionals to administer drugs more conveniently, safely and efficiently," said Professor Moses Chow, Inventor of J Flux Max Technology and Chairman of the CDE R&D Committee.

Earlier in the year, CDE won the 2007 Hong Kong Awards for Industries - Technological Achievement Award with this break-through transmucosal drug delivery technology. The Award is established to 1) recognize excellence in technology and intellectual property as well as its contribution to Hong Kong; 2) promote a broader appreciation of technology adsorption and development in the industry; and 3) enhance the competitiveness of Hong Kong industry. "We are indeed most honored to receive the technological achievement award. The award is a prestigious symbol of excellence, and CDE is very much privileged to be selected as winner among the cream of Hong Kong industry in technological achievement," said Mr. Frederick Kan, Chairman of CDE.

"We are a technology-driven company developing innovative solutions in drug delivery systems. Our technology differentiates CDE products from the existing pharmaceuticals, makes new indications possible, at the same time affording proprietary protection, thereby reducing competition from generic drugs and maximizing revenues. Propranolol Sublingual, formulated with our award-winning technology, is a new drug for managing tachycardia and essential tremor caused by anxiety. This new product is designed to deliver rapid onset action and is better than any other currently available drugs. As demonstrated today at the symposium, the clinical results are excellent. We will submit for product registration in Hong Kong this year," said Dr. Benjamin Lee, Managing Partner and Chief Scientist of CDE.

"The next step is to seek licensees for distributing Propranolol outside of Hong Kong and China. We intend to engage companies for out-licensing agreement upon receiving approval at the Country of Origin. We will penetrate the global market through out-licensing activities and protect our technologies and high margin re-formulation products via a series of patents. A U.S. patent on "Method of Enhancing Absorptions of Transmucosal Administration Formulations" has been granted, and is being extended via the Patent Cooperation Treaty to cover China, Canada, Japan, Australia, European Countries, India, Singapore, and Malaysia. In a way, we are on a mission to restructure the pharmaceutical market by transforming low-margin generics into high-margin patentable products," said Dr. Bernard Chan, CDE Director of Business Development.
