City Hosts "State of the Arts" Reception & Program
The impact of creative arts on Folsom's economy and quality of life will be the focus of a special reception and program featuring the director of the California Arts Council and other dignitaries. The public is invited to attend this unique "State of the Arts" program at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12 at the Arts Center @ 48 Natoma.
Muriel Johnson, director of the California Arts Council, will be the featured speaker. State Assemblyman Roger Niello, Folsom Mayor Eric King, and Co-chair of Raley's Board of Directors Joyce Raley Teel will also participate in a dialogue about the arts.
California has more art related businesses and more people employed in the creative industries than any other state. Johnson will share her perspective on how key components of the state's economy are touched by the arts, including film, design, high tech, tourism and entertainment industries. She will also discuss how the arts benefit communities and individuals.
"The City is hosting this special reception and program to stimulate discussion about the arts and to provide an update about how the arts are developing in Folsom," said King.
King will address the City's efforts to facilitate the growth of the arts in Folsom. Raley Teel, widely known and respected for her arts philanthropy in the Sacramento region, will touch on how the arts shape communities. Niello will offer concluding remarks about the value of arts in the region.
Folsom's newest addition to the arts scene, the Art Center @ 48 Natoma, will be the site of the reception and discussion. The evening will begin with a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception in the Gallery @ 48 Natoma, which is currently featuring a special exhibition of the work of acclaimed American artist Norman Rockwell.
Program seating is limited and advance reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Call the Parks and Recreation Department, 355-7285, for reservations and information.
