Pennsylvania Equine Industry to be Showcased at Horse World Expo in Harrisburg


PA Farm Show Complex & Expo Center to Host 6th Annual Event

HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Equine enthusiasts and horse lovers can saddle up for the sixth annual Pennsylvania Horse World Expo, Feb. 21-24, at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center inHarrisburg.

"The expo showcases Pennsylvania's equine industry, which contributes $10 billion to our state's economy and provides more than 20,000 jobs," said Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff. "The public will be treated to the best in equine technology, education and entertainment."

The expo features the nation's leading equestrian clinicians and entertainers, hosting educational seminars and exciting programs, including:

-- "Theatre Equus, A Musical Equine Revue," a professionally choreographed and scripted show in which people and horses partner to perform various stunts (8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday).

-- "The Wind Rider Equestrian Challenge," a new addition to the expo, the challenge lets any rider compete in a course and the top three finalists will be paired with star clinicians for the final round (preliminary rides from 10 a.m. - noon on Friday and 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday, with the final round at 11 a.m. on Sunday).

-- Horse trainer and riding instructor Julie Goodnight will be one of the stars competing in the final round of the Wind Rider Equestrian Challenge. She travels coast-to-coast with her program, "Communicating Clearly with Horses and Riders." (Appears daily)

-- Lynn Palm, the only female, four-time World Championship Quarter Horse Show Super Horse rider and winner of more than 34 World and Reserve World Championships, named one of the top clinicians in theUnited States by "Horse and Rider Magazine." (Appears daily)

-- Trick Trainer Tommie Turvey Jr., a well-known entertainer and clinician who trains horses to attempt dangerous stunts, travels more than 100,000 miles a year with his signature horse, Pokerjoe. (Appears daily)

-- Richard Shrake, known as the "Trainer's Trainer, Master of Horsemanship," authored three books about resistance-free riding and training and western horsemanship, and instructed more than 40 riders to world championships and trained numerous world champion horses. (Appears daily)

More than 500 vendors will be in attendance, including the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission. The commission is a regulatory agency of the Department of Agriculture that oversees thoroughbred racing and pari-mutuel activities in Pennsylvania.

The commonwealth is home to three thoroughbred racetracks, including Penn National Race Course in Grantville,Philadelphia Park Race Track in Bensalem, and Presque Isle Downs in Erie.

Pennsylvania Horse World Expo hours are noon to 8 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Saturday; and 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday.

Daily admission is $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 7-12. Children under age seven are admitted free. Tickets for the Theatre Equus start at $12 and are available at the show while supplies last. Parking is $5.
