Six Southern California Players Chosen for Elite McDonald's(R) All American High School Basketball Team
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Six of Southern California's finest
high school basketball players have been selected for the nationally renowned
McDonald's(R) All American High School Basketball Teams. This year's All
American High School Basketball Games, played inMilwaukee, Wisc., mark the
31st anniversary of the nation's best high school basketball players competing
to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Malcom Lee from John W. North High School in Riverside, Jrue Holiday from
Campbell Hall High School in NorthHollywood, Larry Drew II from Taft High
School in Woodland Hills and Demar DeRozan from Compton High School will play
on the McDonald's All American High School Basketball Boys Team. Jasmine
Dixon of Long Beach Poly High School and Nikki Speed of Marlborough High
School inLos Angeles will participate in the Girls Game.
Lee and Holiday, both guards, plan to attend University of California,Los
Angeles while DeRozan, a forward, will attend University of Southern
California. Drew, a guard, will attend University of North Carolina. Both
Dixon and Speed will attend Rutgers University in New Jersey.
"We're thrilled to see that six talented boys and girls from the Southland
have been chosen to participate in the prestigious McDonald's All American
Games," said Ti Chang, president, McDonald's Operators' Association of
Southern California (MOASC). "I'm proud to be a part of an organization that
not only recognizes talented youth but also gives back to the community
through donations to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Wisconsin
and its Ronald McDonald House program."
This year's games will be played Wednesday, March 26 at the Bradley Center
inMilwaukee, Wisc. The Boys Game will air live on ESPN at 9:30 p.m. (EST).
The Girls Game tips off at 7:00 p.m. (EST) and will broadcast live on ESPNU. A
portion of the proceeds from both Games will benefit Ronald McDonald House
Charities Chapters of Eastern Wisconsin.
McDonald's All American alumni include such current and former NBA and
NCAA superstars as Michael Jordan (retired), Magic Johnson (retired), Kevin
Garnett (Minnesota Timberwolves), Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets) and LeBron
James (Cleveland Cavaliers), current WNBA MVP candidate Seimone Augustus
(Minnesota Lynx) and NCAA stars Ivory Latta (North Carolina) and Tina Charles
(Connecticut).
Tickets range from $15 to $150 and can be purchased at all TicketMaster
outlets or by calling (213) 480-3232. Admission tickets include access to
both the Boys' and Girls' Games.
Throughout its 31-year history, the All American High School Basketball
Game has raised over $5 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).
In addition to the Ronald McDonald Houses, RMHC programs include the Ronald
McDonald Family Room and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile -- extending the
reach of the Charity to directly improve the health and well-being of children
in neighborhoods around the world.
The MOASC is comprised of more than 600 franchised and company-owned
McDonald's restaurants in the counties ofLos Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San
Bernardino and Ventura.
