Semi-Trailer Tire Pressure Tire Temperature Monitoring System from SAF-TTE LLC Takes the Heat

The SAF-TTE LLC ST-TPTTMS (Semi-Trailer Tire Pressure Tire Temperature Monitoring System) series is the first tire pressure monitoring systems designed specifically for semi-trailers.

ROCKY FORD, Colo. (EWORLDWIRE) Feb 19, 2008

The SAF-TTE LLC ST-TPTTMS (Semi-Trailer Tire Pressure Tire Temperature Monitoring System) is a self-contained system that mounts directly to the front, driver's side corner of the trailer. The device automatically and continuously monitors tire status, alerting the driver to abnormal conditions with an LED Red Light Array visible in the driver's sideview mirror while driving. Says Todd Wessels, vice president of SAF-TTE LLC, "It works a lot like the red light for the reefer-style trailers when it reaches too high of a temperature. This superior system not only warns of low-pressure, and high-pressure levels, it also monitors hazardous tire temperature conditions and even when a tire has a slow leak."

"Monitoring and maintaining properly inflated tires delivers benefits, with the most important being the reduction of fatalities and injuries from tire-related hazards," remarked Wessels. "Increasing safety and improving fuel consumption is something all trucking companies are in need of. These companies need good news on how to reduce costs, especially with the high cost of fuel."

"A secondary benefit is it will also help reduce the trucking companies number two costs of tires by increasing the life of tires by up to 60 percent, by keeping them properly inflated."

Based on the latest wireless sensor technology, the SAF-TTE LLC WTPTTMS series offers several advantages over all other tire monitoring systems. For example, the tires do not require removal and remounting during installation of the sensor, resulting in immediate cost savings. These rugged and miniature valve-stem sensor transmitters are externally mounted. The system is housed directly within a weather resistant box and currently uses a four LED Light Array that can be easily seen by the driver from the cab. It also shows all tire pressures when in the yard so that yard people and drivers can walk right up to the LCD Panel and instantly tell what the tire pressure is on that particular trailer without having to break out tire pressure gauges all the time.

"Each System is unique to each trailer and prevents any crosstalk from happening from trailer-to-trailer," adds Wessels. This is very important in large truck yards where there is a possibility of not receiving accurate data from each trailer.

The System has a built in 12-Volt battery in the receiver and wires directly to the 12-volt system, allowing the trailer to recharge the battery while it is in use, and allowing them to stand alone when not hooked up to any power, delivering accurate details to the trailer's tire systems.

Each System only takes about 30 minutes to install on the semi-trailer. Since most companies are using their trailers with owner / operator drivers, this provides the company with a way to monitor their expensive tires while a vehicle moves from depot to depot, while helping drivers reduce the chance of blowouts with their trailers.

Drivers may also purchase a standard 10-tire system to work in conjunction with the trailer version to provide 18-tire monitoring of their tires for more on-the-road time.

Each system comes with a three year warranty, and sensor replacement for up to one year will be available. The cost for the entire system will be priced under $800 - considering the cost of trucking tires, implementing systems will provide companies a return on investment in fewer than three months with fuel costs, extended tire life, and longer trailer life.

The ST-TPTTMS will be available for delivery by May 1, 2008. Initial sales of this line to trucking companies within the United States is underway.
