McDonald's(R) All American Names Four New York Tri-State Basketball Players to Final Teams
NEW YORK, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Four New York Tri-State Area high school
boys and girls basketball players will join the ranks of the basketball elite,
as they have been chosen to participate in the 2008 McDonald's All American
High School Basketball Games.
Sylven Landesberg (Holy Cross High School, Flushing, NY), Samardo Samuels
(St. Benedict's Prep, Bayonne, NJ), and Kemba Walker (Rice High School,
Harlem, NY) will be members of the Boys' East Squad. Samantha Prahalis
(Commack High School, Commack, NY) will be a member of the Girls' East Squad.
"We are proud to have so many talented basketball players in the New York
Tri-State Area be honored with this wonderful achievement," said Paul Hendel,
president of the New York Tri-State Area Owners and Operators Association. "We
believe in our student athletes and take pride in all of their hard work and
dedication to this great sport. Our local McDonald's family looks forward to
seeing them shine at the games this year."
This year's game marks the 31st year of the McDonald's All American Game
for the boys' team and the sixth anniversary for girls' team. The game will be
played Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at The Bradley Center inMilwaukee, WI.
The Girls Game broadcasts live at 7:00 p.m. EST on ESPNU and the Boys Game
broadcasts live at 9:30 p.m. EST on ESPN.
A portion of the proceeds from both games will benefit Ronald McDonald
House Charities(R) of Eastern Wisconsin. The Ronald McDonald House program has
provided a "home-away-from-home" for millions of family members of seriously
ill children since its inception in 1974.
McDonald's All American alumni include such current and former NBA and
NCAA superstars as Michael Jordan (retired) and Magic Johnson (retired), Kevin
Garnett (Minnesota Timberwolves), Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets) and LeBron
James (Cleveland Cavaliers), as well as Dee Brown (Illinois), Chris Thomas
(Notre Dame) and Rashad McCants (North Carolina). Women's NCAA stars include
Shanna Zolman (Tennessee), Courtney Lavere (Notre Dame) and Seimone Augustus
(LSU).
