eCopy(TM) Introduces Document Services Interface
ISVs, SIs and Corporate Developers Have Access to Advanced Tools for Developing Document Services for the eCopy Open Platform

eCopy Inc., a leading provider of solutions that
integrate paper documents into business software applications, today
announced that eCopy Connections Alliance Program (eCAP) partners will be
able to develop Document Services for the eCopy Open Platform (eOP), a
development platform for eCopy ShareScan document
imaging software. eCAP members will have access to a Document Services
application programming interface (API) that will be documented in the
eCopy ShareScan Software Developers Kit (SDK).
Opening the Document Services layer in eOP will enable independent software
vendors (ISVs), systems integrators (SIs), corporate developers, and other
eCAP partners to integrate their Document Services directly into eCopy
ShareScan. eCopy Connector developers will be able to include the new
Document Services as part of their Connectors to eCopy ShareScan.
"Document Services improve the handling, appearance, categorization and
management of scanned documents," said Chip Whitman, eCopy Director of
Software Alliances. "It solves the problem of maintaining information
accuracy during the scanning and workflow process, the most common
challenge facing document imaging technology users. By marrying eCopy's
rich set of development tools and industry-leading application connectivity
with best of breed document services, we are making advanced imaging
available to every office worker."
In the past, Document Services have most often been used in production
scanning operations by highly trained document imaging specialists that use
high speed scanners in back office operations. eCopy is bringing these
advanced capabilities out of the back office and making them available to
front office workers.
Document Services products are typically divided into two functions: image
services and data publishing applications. Image services modify scanned
images with software functionality like de-speckle, de-skew, page removal
and page separation. Data publishing products extract metadata (information
about the scanned document) and store it in business applications using
advanced capabilities such as barcode processing, zonal optical character
recognition (OCR), forms recognition and automated data extraction.
In 2005, eCopy introduced eOP, a software development platform that made it
possible for ISVs, SIs and corporate developers to create Connectors that
enabled end users to use eCopy ShareScan to scan documents directly into
business software applications. It provided a standard scanning interface
that can be used with any MFP device from any manufacturer. There are more
than 200 eCAP application developers using eOP to integrate their
applications with eCopy ShareScan, which is more than all the MFP vendor
developer programs combined.
eCopy ShareScan document imaging software enables office workers to easily
and securely transform paper documents into business value using
infrastructure that is readily available in any office -- MFPs or scanners.
With an eCopy software solution deployed, operational efficiency and
business productivity improve dramatically. Energy expended in finding,
copying, sorting, routing, filing and retrieving hardcopy documents can be
put to better use. Time wasted chasing paper becomes time invested in
meaningful work that contributes to bottom-line profitability.
eCopy ShareScan provides a fast, effective means for office workers to
scan, distribute and store documents using existing business software
systems, including e-mail, fax server, document management and
collaborative systems. It directly connects more than 85 business
applications, including Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint, Captaris
RightFax and EMC Documentum, to all the leading office MFP and scanner
brands.
Included with eCopy ShareScan is eCopy Desktop PC software, which enables
users to transform paper documents into secure electronic PDF files that
can be manipulated at the desktop, combined with other paper and electronic
documents, shared with others, and stored on the user's PC or in network
applications.
The API for Document Services will be available from eCopy on March 15,
2008. For more information about the API or the eCAP program, please visit
