Bargaining Begins for AT&T Government Solutions Workers

BEDMINSTER, N.J., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Negotiations open today for a first contract covering about 600 workers at AT&T Government Solutions inDover, New Hampshire, members of Communications Workers of America Local 1298.

Among the workers' key bargaining issues are jobs and job security, a fair wage increase and changes to make health care coverage more affordable for workers and their families.

The unit, which predominantly is made up of younger workers, joined CWA in November 2007. The workers process passport applications under an AT&T contract with the U.S. State Department.

"These members joined CWA because they recognized the value and benefit of having a union voice and bargaining rights and being able to make real gains on the job," said CWA District 1 Vice President Chris Shelton. "Our goal is to reach a fair contract that addresses their concerns about their jobs and about their futures, and especially one that brings about affordable health care," he said.

The talks got underway in Bedminster at noon on February 12. The CWA team includes Lois Grimes-Patow, chair; Pat Telesco, District 1 staff; Bill Henderson, president, and Darlene Perry and Bob Egan, all of Local 1298.
