200 Persons Rescued in Kashmir Snows

Srinagar, Feb 12: Police rescued 200 persons of 17 families from North Kashmir, which witnessed heavy snowfall recently.
Dara Kunj village in North Kashmir received more than 10 feet of snow during the recent snowfall. The village comprising 200 persons was totally cut off from other parts of Kashmir.
"Residents of the village had no communication with the rest of the world and numerous attempts in the past few days to rescue them proved futile," sources said.
They said as weather conditions improved, police launched an operation this morning and managed to rescue all 200 persons.
A police officer while confirming the rescue operation said that rescued persons were moved to safer places in the plains.
It is pertinent to mention here that the avalanche threat continues to loom in upper reaches of North and South Kashmir, which witnessed heavy snowfall. The authorities are trying to evacuate inhabitants from the upper reaches.
