Hand Dyed Fabric Maker's Love of Quilting

By Alan Gray, NewsBlaze

At the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild Annual Quilt show, this week, I met Collett Fenske, who hand dyes several kinds of fabrics, trims, rick racks and cotton webbing.

The fabrics and trim come in 12 colors: yellow, marigold, orange, red, chartreuse, emerald green, robins egg blue, alpine blue, lavender, raspberry, fuchsia and pink.

Collett has been dying fabric for 20 years and sells the fabric with original quilt patterns. She also has finished products, such as pincushions that you can see on the web or at shows.

Collett recently had an original design quilt, a hand dyed cotton piece with flowers stamped with textile paint appearing in 'Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting' July and August issue.

Collett also has pincushions that are stuffed with fresh Walnut shells and lavender. They will appear in "Quiltmaker" in the February issue, in the new product section.

She will be at the PVQA Quilt Show, in Watsonville, California on February 22, 23, 2008 and also at Seven Sisters Quilt Show San Luis Obispo, California, April 26, 27.
