Statement by the Hon. Jason Kenney, PC, MP Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity) on the Lunar New Year
OTTAWA, ONTARIO - (Marketwire - Feb. 1, 2008) - For people of Asian heritage living in Canada, the Lunar New Year is a time to reflect on the past and think toward the future. It is also a time to recognize good fortune, honour ancestors and their example, and celebrate children, who hold such rich promise for the future.
For all Canadians, the Lunar New Year provides an excellent opportunity to think about the tremendous contributions that members of the Asian community have made to this country's rich and diverse heritage.
This year, we enter the Year of the Rat, an animal traditionally associated with discipline, hard work, and material success.
As Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity), I hope the Year of the Rat fulfills its promise and brings everyone health, wealth and good fortune.
