Valley Credit Union Celebrates 10 Years of Babies at Work

Valley Credit Union celebrated 10 years of their successful Babies in the Workplace program on Saturday, January 26 with a reunion of current and past employees and their children who have participated in the program. This innovative program allows employees to bring their babies to work until they are eight months old or crawling, whichever comes first.

Since the program began, the credit union has had 39 employees and 49 babies participate in the program. Twenty-five of those "babies," some now 10 years old, attended the reunion.

"Allowing our staff to bring their newborns to work with them has been one of the most significant things we have done to help our employees balance life and work," says Vice President of Human Resources Debbie Sallen.

However, Sallen did not always believe that the Babies in the Workplace program would be conducive to a productive work environment. When first suggested to her by an HR employee, she could not visualize how such a program would work.

"I'm glad I kept an open mind and that the board and CEO were interested in finding out more because it's been a wonderful program that has received nothing but a positive reaction," says Sallen.

It's not only employees who are happy with the program, the credit union has also received a positive response from members.

"It's things like this that make me love Valley Credit Union more," says long-time member Susan Perfecto who just recently discovered the program when she called Member Services and inquired about a baby crying in the background.

The reunion celebrated the success of the program with balloons, cupcakes and a slideshow of the past 10 years of Babies in the Workplace.
