Kamaliyah Sewer Project Supports 80,000 East Baghdad Residents

BAGHDAD – Children in the southeastern Baghdad neighborhood of Kamaliyah play while Coalition Soldiers talk to the Kamaliyah Sewer Project supervisor and 1st Battalion, 4th Brigade, 1st National Police Division commander.

The Kamaliyah Sewer Project will support between 80,000 and 100,000 Iraqi residents in a predominantly Shia area where, dating back to the Saddam Hussein regime, water, electricity and sewage systems have been largely ignored.

Security in the area has improved dramatically, due to the increased capability and presence of the Iraqi Security Forces, to the point where attention can now be focused on essential service projects.
