Katherine Cunningham-Eves Wins Accolade For Murdering Mama's Boy

Award of Excellence: Short Film Category, stars Joely Fisher, Camille LaChe Smith, Maxwell Perry Cotton

LOS ANGELES (EWORLDWIRE) Jan 15, 2008

Katherine Cunningham-Eves, president of Dead Serious Films, has won a prestigious Award of Excellence from The Accolade Competition. The award was given for Katherine Cunningham-Eves' exciting short film, "Murdering Mama's Boy," which tells the story of one young girl's struggle with obsessive jealousy. Murdering Mama's Boy features exceptional actors including Golden Globe nominee Joely Fisher, was shot on 16mm by Emmy Award-winning cinematographer, Cameron Pearce and is based on the short story, "Murdering Maman's Day Boy," by Pushcart Prize winning author Emily Raboteau.

"As my first film, I was not expecting anything other than the chance to learn and to collaborate with artists I respect and admire," said Cunningham-Eves. " Winning an Accolade is icing on the cake, and I would very much like to acknowledge the actors - Joely Fisher, Maxwell Perry Cotton, Camille LaChe Smith, Nadege August and Mad Mass; the editor, Adam Catino at Ingenuity Engine; the producing team - Lauren Bratman (producer), Gina Cunningham, Peter Eves and Christie Strong (co-producers); the crew headed by Cameron Pearce, Andrew Meyers, James Madigan, Aeolan Kelly, Morgan Locke, Evan Freeman, Beth Dubber, Laurel Messina, Marie Flore-Beaubien and Ross Levine; the composer, Patrick Leonard; the creator of the characters and the story, Emily Raboteau and, finally Ric Halpern at Pananvision and Lorette Bayle at Kodak.

The Accolade recognizes film, television and videography professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, and those who produce standout entertainment or contribute to profound social change. Entries are judged by highly qualified professionals in the film and television industry. Information about the Accolade and a list of recent winners can be found at 'http://www.theaccolade.net'.

In winning an Accolade, Katherine Cunningham-Eves joins the ranks of other high-profile winners of this internationally respected award. Thomas Baker, Ph.D., who chairs The Accolade, had this to say about Murdering Mama's Boy: "This short film is a treasure, well-crafted and compelling in character development. It explores a jealous young girl's scheme to kill the seven-year old boy her mother nannies and her eventual redemption at the juncture of achieving her goal. The protagonist in this psychologically complex film offers an exceptional performance that draws the viewer into the heart of the story. Carefully crafted to increase dramatic tension, first-time filmmaker Katherine Cunningham-Eves drives the story to reveal the protagonist's troubled spirit. It's a film that will be admired by those who love good character development and deserves wide distribution."
