Introducing the New Proud Parents to America's Children
by Daniel Gilbert
In 2004 and again in 2006, liberals in Congress blocked all attempts to pass a Federal Amendment protecting marriage between a man and a woman. With the 2008 election season in full throttle, there is little chance that such an amendment will ever reach the floor of the Democrat controlled Congress. Liberals and their Democratic comrades in Congress not only refuse to defend traditional marriage, they intend to weaken the institution for their own political power at a catastrophic cost to our society.
The traditional family has been the anchor of American society for over 200 years. It has been the epicenter of nurture, protection and support, and the basis of civilization since the beginning of time.
Countless studies have proven that children raised within the marital unit of a mother and father are more likely to be happier, healthier, better students, and less likely to engage in premarital sex, drug use, commit suicide or live in poverty. Furthermore, the failed family produces less educated adults who earn less and are more likely to experience hard financial times, resulting in the government having to step in to solve society's escalating problems.
Yet, liberals in political office, Hollywood and the media consistently assault the very institution historically responsible for our social and economic security. Why?
Elitist Liberal politicians are launching a silent attack to dismantle every institution in America that stands in the path of a bloated federal government ruled by corrupt leaders. The more marriage and family are deemed irrelevant, the more power the federal government and the liberals in charge wield.
Diminish the roles of fathers and mothers, and you elevate the role of Big Brother. Parents are no longer the primary nurturer of a child whom the government allows to cross state lines for an abortion or receive birth control as young as 13 without parental notification. The family is no longer the nucleus of a society when children can divorce their parents. The family is no longer a sacred institution when the God-given union between a man and a woman is no longer exclusive.
Liberal politicians are attempting to undermine the most supreme institution in the history of the world with a vengeance. Defenders of traditional marriage are immediately labeled "bigots." Yet, where does the bigotry really lie? All five of the major world religions honor marriage between a man and a woman and believe homosexuality is a sin. How tolerant is forcing members of these religions to accept a practice against their religious beliefs?
The Federal Marriage Amendment debate on the American Left is not about tolerance, it is about power. Liberals are using the gay marriage lobby not only to secure campaign contributions, media time and votes, but as a vehicle to further chip away at an institution that stands in the way of their agenda.
We the People have spoken on this issue. Forty-five states have passed laws or amended their constitutions to ban same-sex marriages. Our voices have only been mocked. Liberals have attempted to gain new ground in the court system. In 2006, nine states faced lawsuits either challenging defense of marriage laws or demanding same-sex marriage rights.
It goes without saying that responsible parents, not government, should be making the decisions about how to raise and discipline their children.
Only a Federal Marriage Amendment to the Constitution will prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars to wage war on the most vital component of our civilization. As long as we do not have a Federal Marriage Amendment, the liberal politicians will continue the slow bleed of the traditional family with grave consequences.

In 2000 I voted for President Bush and the Republicans. I had high hopes that with the Republicans in control of the legislature and the executive branches that real change would occur in our government. I thought that the principles that we all thought the Republicans stood for would guide the Republicans to do what is best for the country. I thought I would see a new higher moral standard. What we got was corruption, bribes, moral decline, hearings with no action, tax breaks for big business, McCain Feingold and last year 15,000 earmarks. We get a Republican majority in the Senate and a President who think that the best way to handle the illegal alien problem is to give them amnesty. And just last month we had a great break through with the North Koreans where they agreed to not do what they agreed to not do under Clinton. How much will it cost the American citizens this time?
There has to be a change in Presidential and Congressional leadership to affect change in this country. There has to be a way to get the politicians out and the statesmen in. Those politicians who vote only for the sake of the party, the lobbyist or big business have to be removed. To bring about substantial changes in the government these new statesmen must control the House, Senate and the White House.
