By Fayaz Wani
Srinagar, Jan 11: Panic gripped North Kashmir after an empty fuel tank of a MIG fighter aircraft fell on a residential house. Fortunately, no loss of life took place.
Police sources said that the fuel tank of the MIG fighter landed on a residential house of one Mohammad Amin Sheikh at Janwari, Sopore in North Kashmir, this morning. It caused panic among the villagers, who feared it was a missile attack. The villagers came out from their houses to escape any splinters.
The villagers said that they saw an 11 foot long aluminum tank fall on the rooftop of a house. Fortunately, for the inmates, the tank rolled down from the roof and fell in the premises.
An Indian army spokesman while confirming the incident said the aircraft had dropped an empty fuel tank to save the Air Craft from a serious crash. "It has been reported that the empty tank has fallen on a roof of a house in Janipora, Sopure and the house was damaged".
He said that an Air Force enquiry team and civil officials will visit the incident site to assess the damage. Adequate compensation will be provided to repair the damaged house.
