The Government of Canada Announces Canada Summer Jobs 2008-'Supporting Students: Serving Communities'

"Canada Summer Jobs funds quality career-related student work experiences that deliver important community services for children, families, people with disabilities, seniors, and others," said Minister Solberg. "The initiative will focus on local priorities and will achieve tangible results for both students and their communities."

Funding will be offered to not-for-profit, public-sector, and small private-sector employers to create high-quality summer job opportunities for young people 15 to 30 years old who are full-time students and intend to return to their studies in the next academic year. Larger private-sector employers with more than 50 employees will not be eligible for funding.

The Canada Summer Jobs budget of $97.5 million will be allocated across the 308 federal constituencies.

Applications for Canada Summer Jobs will be available on February 1, 2008, in Service Canada offices and online at www.servicecanada.gc.ca/csj2008. Employers will be asked to submit their completed applications by February 29, 2008.
