Perfect Wine Choices For The Holiday Season!
By Rocco Loosbrock
Tis the season to be jolly. So why do so many of us find this brutally busy and boisterously beleaguering season to be a lot less Holiday and a lot more "The Holi-Daze?"
This wonderful time of the year shouldn't be so complex and complicated. So we're here to try to help save you a lot of valuable time, potential frustration, limited energy and possible worry by lending a helpful hand in picking the perfect, palate pleasing pairings of wine and food.
*** Sliced Fruit, Veggies, Cheese & Assorted Nuts: (White)
Pinot Gris: A rich, ripe fruity mixture, often of melon, orange peel, and pineapple with a whiff of exotic spices. Generous and crisp, this intoxicating, tropical fruit flavor is often touched off by a hint of cinnamon. Long, clean finish of ripe fruit and lingering spice.
Chardonnay: Delightfully lively, crisp, lean and tasty, this wine that luxuriates on the palate with the subtle seduction of sensuously savory fruits and wonderful balance of minerals and citrus notes. Playfully light and thoroughly refreshing.
*** Roasted Turkey: (Red)
Cabernet Sauvignon: A dense, bright, "ruby red" wine with a nose that develops a superb bouquet of black berries, cedar and liquorices. A medium bodied wine, with a complex texture and delightful viscosity.
Zinfandel: A delicious wine, balanced with a rich fullness, long lasting finish and wonderful texture. A superb mix of semi-sweet fruit that stays with you long after you swallow.
*** Baked Ham: (White)

Riesling: Exotically arousing and compelling fruity flavors, infused with citric and tropical aromas like orange, banana, nectarine, kiwi, peach, mango, lemon and a whiff of exotic spice.
*** Roasted Duck: (Red)
Syrah: A full bodied wine with strong fruity flavors with subtle, sophisticated structure and the occasional hint of spice and essence of cocoa. On the palate, the tannins are amazingly well integrated, gentle and make for a seductively strong, vigorous finish.
Merlot: A powerfully attractive nose, full of ripe red fruits. On the palate this wine develops enthusiastic elegance and body. The red fruity flavors are balanced perfectly with the oak, in a nice, deliciously drinkable medium-bodied wine.
*** Dessert: (White)
Muscat: A delicious dessert wine with a powerful floral nose and flavor that is an absolute explosion of yellow fruits, such as nectarine, ripe peach and melon. The finish is slightly sweet, crisp, and lightly mineral. Perfect for serving with chocolate or coffee / mocha flavored desserts.
Riesling: full of subtle, fruity flavors such as peach, apricot and pineapple, which come together and melt into a nicely structured, deeply complex body. A perfect wine to serve with a nice fruit oriented dessert.
