The Sanctity of Human Life Act - HR-4157

  Share With Friends

by John W. Wallace

I support "The Sanctity of Human Life Act (HR-4157) introducted in the 110th COngress by Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), which defines life as beginning with fertiliation.

The Declaration of Independence clearly states in part: '..that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.'

I believe that these inherent rights are at the core of what it means to be a Human Being and to have freedom. These rights are not gifts from the government, nor can they be taken away by the government, including the courts. We have both a moral obligation and a constitutional duty to defend these inherent rights for every precious life that comes into existence.

Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) recently introduced "The Sanctity of Human Life Act" (HR-4157), which declares that the right to life guaranteed by the Constitution. It also provides protection for life created through non-traditional means, stating that 'the life of each human being begins with fertilization, cloning, or its functional equivalent . . . at which time every human being shall have the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood.'

In HR-4155, the word 'fertilization' is used as opposed to 'conception' to prevent opponents from excluding some humans as fully deserving of life. Over the years, abortion supporters have shifted their terminology, defining conception as the implantation of a fertilized ovum in the mother's uterine wall. This allows them to argue that embryos killed after fertilization but before implantations, are not abortions. The Sancitity of Human Life Act is also important because it extends the constitution protections to cloned individuals.

I am committed to protecting the lives of all of these innocent persons. I recognize that life begins at fertilization and continues until natural death. I support legislation restricting and regulating abortion and will support legislation to prohibit the use of taxpayer funds by government for abortion. Also, I strongly defend the constitutional right of life of all individuals, including those threatened by the growing proponents of euthanasia.
