At War with MRSA Contamination: New Product, Fresh Protect, and Safe Work Practices Prevent Transmission of Infectious, and Sometimes Deadly, Staph Bacteria

Fresh Protect Sanitizing Products kill the dreaded superbug, MRSA, fast and efficiently, reports Omega Tech Labs' Glenn Mouser.

BOISE, Idaho (EWORLDWIRE) Nov 29, 2007

From the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Mayo Clinic, the facts and supporting reports and surveys are consistent and indisputable by anyone knowledgeable about the spread of bacteria: when acceptable, universal Standard Precautions and practices for hand cleaning are adhered to, the incidence of spreading infection, including the dreaded Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), is diminished. According to Omega Tech Labs' President of Research & Development, Glenn Mouser, the range of healthcare worker hand-cleaning compliance spans from 43 percent to 89 percent, with variations between experienced and non-experienced professionals, and among occupational groups in the same healthcare facility.

Says Mouser, "The public knows how difficult it is, in a healthcare or in any other environment such as a child care facility or public school system, to ensure adequate measures of cleanliness are incorporated into routine care. It's not a secret that growing complexity of the healthcare system and patient populations served opens the floodgates to lapses in cleanliness procedures in hospitals and in residential healthcare sites. It still comes as a shock and a tragedy when we learn of deaths such as a 17-year old's MRSA bacteria death - especially when truly functional products exist that will kill MRSA."

"Surveys indicate the biggest groups of those negligent are the ones who you would expect would know better about complying - health care workers (HCWs). New, broader guidelines were issued by the CDC in response to the increasing number of multidrug-resistant organisms. However, HCWs don't always like the recommendations by the CDC. The alcohol-based sanitizers that the CDC recommends are not very effective when compared to the current technology that is available in the hand sanitizing field. The alcohol-based sanitizers dry out their hands, make them crack and bleed - the formulas have no persistence and smell bad."

Because typical products available to institutions are alcohol-based and cause the skin to dry out, some people are deterred from proper use - and in many cases, any use at all, when hand cleaners are available. Mouser is convinced that availability of Omega Tech Labs' Protect Sanitizing Hand Lotion and Fresh Protect Sanitizing Hand Foam - which are both bacteriocidal and bacteriostatic at the microbial level, are the pivot points of any institutional, hand-cleaning initiative and are poised to make the biggest impact in facilities which serve the public, starting with hospitals.

"It's not just our word - it's the substantive results prepared by independent third-party laboratories. The Omega Tech Labs' hand sanitizing product line is affirmed with 99.99 percent efficacy against bacteria within 15 seconds, while Fresh Protect products are still persistent for over four hours after use, and hands look and feel great," said Mouser. "Of course, the challenge ahead is in raising awareness of the Omega Tech Labs' product with health care professionals, but the facts are incontrovertible. Improved access to hand hygiene products and replacing the skin-drying agent with natural botanicals and skin emollients - a non-toxic, non-staining preparation which moisturizes and conditions the skin - logically makes it easier for healthcare workers to accept infection prevention as an institutional priority, and to establish and comply with hand cleaning as a stronger element of their organization's safety culture."
