Hug Crimes, Attack on Society

By Will Roberts

(Transcription of Audio Podcast)

Now, all I know is what little I read on the Internet, and lately what I have been reading is depressing. I miss the good old fashion good news story. Like we ever had them, huh? Everything I read these days leaves me feeling like I need a hug. You know that thing we do to each other to confirm that we like each other or that everything will be all right. Everyone's doing it. Well, not everyone; seems there is a school in MASCOUTAH, Ill... that has a policy.

A policy on public displays of affection, a (PDA). Which, in their book, means two people or more making contact in anyway. A mandatory ceasefire on group hugs is in effect. This young lady that crossed the line, Megan Coulter, 13 years old, apparently decided to show her friends that she really likes them- so she hugged them. Stop the presses. Not once, not twice, but three times and three different people.

And, in this school policy, the first time they warn you, the second earns students a detention, third can result in an in-school suspension. If this case goes to court, the lawyer will need to find out what the difference is between detention and in school suspension. Hmmm ... Man, things have gone down hill... we hug a tree, they think we are odd; we hug each other, it's a crime.

We have been telling our kids to communicate with each other, drop the text messaging and say hello, I saw a 20/20 type program that showed that kids were so locked into their phones that they have been losing there social skills. I wonder why? I thought when I started writing my comments on this subject it would just naturally be funny. The truth is, it is down right silly. I guess, as parents, we should sit down with our kids and talk about this school policy, have a heart to heart talk with them, just no hugging.

Maybe we should turn this one over to the FDA. I am sure our government and the drug companies can make a pill for this one.

After all, it is a proven fact that Hugs lower blood pressure and relieve stress. But we must follow the rule- NO PDA it is not PC.

So, the next time someone comes up to you for a hug, JUST SAY NO! To HUGS, NOT DRUGS ... Just say no... no, hugs not drugs.

Anyhow, good luck!
