Surviving Life's Inevitable Changes and Challenges
By Judyth Piazza
More Families Turn to Personal Safety Nets In Times of Crisis
In times of crisis it is more important than ever for people to create personal safety nets for themselves and loved ones. Friends and family members organize these teams as a way to share care and empower the person who needs help. A personal safety net is often orchestrated in times of illness, surgery, divorce or single motherhood. The security that a personal safety net provides reduces fear and anxiety and thereby strengthens individuals, families and communities.
In Personal Safety Nets: Getting Ready for Life's Inevitable Changes and Challenges, (Classic Day Publishing, April 2007) Dr. John W. Gibson and Judy Pigott show you how to intentionally create a personal safety net made up of plans, systems, resources and people who strengthen your life. Enjoying this community of people in good times and having them there in hard times brings pleasure, security and control. Given life's inevitable changes and challenges they believe everyone needs to be part of a strong team.
Personal Safety Nets explains what a care-share team is and when it may be needed. The book also discusses the benefits and challenges of a personal safety net, how to create an effective team, knowing what to expect, watching for stumbling blocks and preparing for the end of the team. Filled with worksheets and vivid examples, the book is a strong tool for health care providers, care givers, cancer patients, and members of the military, parents, families and for us all.
As a professional who works with families, I felt immediately that this book was the most important contribution to the field of life-crises management I had ever seen. How frequently I thought, "If only I'd read this before Granny got sick."
