Duncan Hunter Applauds Defeat of the DREAM Amnesty Act
Republican presidential candidate Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) applauded Republican colleagues in the Senate who yesterday were able to forestall liberal Senator Dick Durbin's backdoor amnesty, the so-called DREAM Act. Had it passed, the act would have allowed legalization of many tens of thousands of illegal aliens and allowed their extended families to be afforded the same immigration rights as families of US citizens.
The attempted passage of the DREAM Act comes on the heels of last spring's attempt for the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill, which, in Hunter's words, "flies in the face of common sense."
Commenting on the bill, Hunter chided, "This legislation should more appropriately be called the Nightmare Act. Rest assured, the Democrats see these illegal immigrants as new liberal voters and will continue to propose piecemeal methods of legalization, while being careful to never utter the term amnesty. The Senate Republicans, led by Mr. Jeff Sessions and others, earned a well-deserved 'Thank you' from the American people who respect the rule of law."
Rep. Hunter authored and shepherded legislation that built a two-layer border fence outside of San Diego leading to a 53% drop in crime and 90% decrease in drug trafficking along that corridor. Hunter's message of a stronger national defense, tighter border security, and fair trade with China is resonating with voters across the nation.
