The Folsom Wastewater Division entered into the national Water Environment Federation Operational Challenge, held in San Diego as part of the Water Environment Federation Technology Exposition Conference. Entered under the name "Folsom Breakout," the team placed 22nd out of 40 participants.
City Manager Kerry Miller congratulated the team in his report to the City Council at last night's meeting. This was a really good result for Folsom, moving up 10 spots from last year.
The conference catered for 18,000 attendees from across the US and the world. Competitors came from Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Houston, Honolulu, Detroit as well as many other large cities in the USA and Canada. Kerry Miller told the Council "Our crews competed in the chemistry lab, safety, pipe repair and pump repair events."
In addition, Folsom recently won the 2007 Program Excellence Award from the North America Hazardous Materials Management Association (NAHMMA). "The award was given for our door-to-door hazardous materials collection program."
NAHMMA is a national professional association of household hazardous waste collection program managers.
Kenneth Payne, Director of the City of Folsom Utilities Department provided the information for this report.
