Cyclist Bob Lee Concludes 6,500-Mile Bike Ride in Support of National Hospice Foundation
The Ride Is Over but Fundraising Is Still Going Strong

In celebration of his 65th birthday this
year, Bob Lee began a special journey -- A Ride for Three Reasons -- a
6,500-mile fundraising bike ride across America. The goal was to raise
$65,000 for each of three causes important to him represented by the
National Hospice Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the Les
Turner ALS Foundation. Lee finished the ambitious ride last month and is
home again in Barrington, IL, but his fundraising effort is far from over.
To date, almost $320,000 has been raised through A Ride for 3 Reasons. And,
thanks to a generous group of donors, all additional contributions made
before November 15, will be matched up to $65,000. This will bring the
total fundraising effort to approximately $450,000 -- or $150,000 for each
of Lee's charities, including NHF.
Lee began his ride on March 27, 2007 in Jacksonville, Florida and ended in
Bar Harbor, Maine on September 7. He passed through 28 states during his
ride.
"The commitment and passion Bob has shown for these important causes is
truly remarkable," said J. Donald Schumacher, NHF president. "In addition
to the significant dollars raised through A Ride for Three Reasons, Bob has
done a tremendous job raising public awareness of these causes."
The National Hospice Foundation extends its deepest appreciation to Lee for
this achievement and is honored by his continued interest in raising funds
and awareness for hospice.
Hospice is not a place but a philosophy of care that provides pain
management, symptom control, psychosocial support, and spiritual care to
people coping with life-limiting illness and their family caregivers. More
than 1.3 million patients received care from the nation's hospices last
year.
