Victim of Lead
by Defenders of Wildlife
Just as the state legislature passed the California Condor Preservation Act (AB 821), which would require the use of non-lead ammunition within the range of the endangered California condor, the debate over the use of use toxic lead ammunition claimed another victim - California Fish and Game Commissioner, Judd Hanna.
Mr. Hanna was forced to resign from the Fish & Game Commission just days after the powerful gun lobby convinced 34 Republicans from the state legislature to write to Governor Schwarzenegger calling for Hanna's removal. His crime? Commissioner Hanna was guilty of sharing scientific research about the effects of lead ammunition on wildlife with his fellow commissioners.
Despite this unfortunate setback, there is still a chance to protect condors from lead. Governor Schwarzenegger has until October 12th to decide the fate of AB 821. If you have not yet contacted the Governor to urge him to support this important legislation, please do so now!
