Folsom Historic District Commission Special Meeting to Consider Streetscape Plan
By Alan Gray
The Folsom Historic District Commission met Wednesday evening to consider the Sutter Street Streetscape Conceptual Plan.
The plan was prepared by BMS Design Group, consultants with expertise in urban design, planning, landscape architecture and architecture.
The meeting opened with a staff report by Jane Talbot, Associate Planner, Community Development, and comments by Amy Feagans, Director, Redevelopment and Housing. Amy Feagans introduced Michael Smiley, BMS Design Group, who gave a presentation on the Conceptual Design and the process that lead to it.
The Sutter Street Streetscape Conceptual Plan proposes a way to enhance the commercial district, based on the shared community values that the Historic District has a special character and personality that must be retained.
After the presentation, the Commission made statements and asked questions of Michael Smiley, then allowed comments from all parties, with concerns and support.
There were so many speakers that not all could be heard in the time available and the Commission voted to continue at a special meeting scheduled for Friday October 5, at 5pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
