The Wolf Picture No One Should Have to See

by Rodger Schlickeisen

This is the image that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin doesn't want you to see: a wolf needlessly slaughtered by a state-permitted hunter with a rifle and a low-flying aircraft. Nearly 700 wolves have been killed this way, victims of the state's brutal and unnecessary aerial hunting program.

Now similar programs have been proposed for the greater Yellowstone region, threatening the wolves we fought so hard to save from extinction.

Donate now to support our new no-holds-barred campaign to stop aerial hunting of wolves and help us run ads, mobilize activists and convince Congress to pass the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act - new federal legislation to end needless and cruel aerial hunting of wolves and other wildlife.

Today we're launching an ambitious new phase in our Campaign to Save America's Wolves. All this week, we're turning the national spotlight on aerial hunting, running ads like this in Congress Daily (one of Washington's most influential publications) and urging Congress to support the soon-to-be-introduced PAW Act.

Aerial hunting of wolves is opposed by hunters, conservationists and scientists alike. That's why we're running a new ad each day this week and kicking off an all-out press blitz intended to turn the national spotlight on aerial hunting of wolves.

We need to raise at least $75,000 in the next 72 hours to help pay for these important efforts. Please donate today and help our Campaign to Save America's Wolves run ads like these and build support for the PAW Act.

Together with our sister organization Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, we've already mobilized more than 70,000 caring people like you to sign our petition in support of the PAW Act. This week, Defenders advocates joined by experts and advocates from Alaska will hand deliver these signatures to Congress.

Please stand with the thousands of dedicated conservationists who are fighting to end the brutal and unnecessary aerial hunting of America's wolves. Donate now.

And that's just the beginning. In the months ahead, Defenders will sponsor grassroots events across the country, unveil new ads and continue to work with allies in Alaska and Congress to pass the PAW Act and end unnecessary and savage aerial wolf hunting once and for all.

We've laid out an ambitious campaign plan to end unnecessary aerial hunting in Alaska and prevent this brutal practice from spreading to the Lower 48. With your support, I'm confident that we can win.
