More Young Athletes Seek Out Mental Toughness Coaches
An increasing number of young competitors from a wide array of sports are now utilizing the services of sport psychologists, performance coaches, psychotherapists and sports counselors.
There is a lot of pressure on many serious young athletes today and they frequently need help so they can learn to handle stress and the pressure of competing in an effective manner.
Jay P. Granat, Ph.D., Founder of www.StayInTheZone.com was recently featured in a Sunday New York Times article detailing how therapists help youngsters to perform to their fullest potential.
"I teach the kids how to stay calm, confident and focused when the pressure is on them. I show them how they can train their minds to control their bodies," says Dr. Granat, the author of How To Get In The Zone And Stay In The Zone With Sport Psychology And Self-Hypnosis. Granat frequently helps parents, coaches and athletes to develop a plan to allow the youngster to enjoy their sport while they achieve their athletic goals.
"I frequently get calls from athletes who are in slumps and from athletes who are in conflict with their coaches and or their parents. Once we resolve these differences, the child or adolescent is more likely to feel better, play better and perform better."
Dr. Granat has counseled young athletes, professionals and weekend warriors from virtually every sport. "The people who come to see me all want the same thing. They want to learn how to get in the zone and stay there. The trick is finding the right mental tools for them to get their mind and their body into that special place."
